Fr Martin writes

Words can help convey truth. But even they fall silent before the mystery of Jesus dying on the cross. The beauty and glory of the Passion is that the One who suffered is the very Second Person of the Blessed Trinity. He is truly man while remaining truly God.

Flesh and blood cannot grasp this. What is needed is a grace of revelation.

This grace compels us to wonder, worship and bow dowen before the One who being God, did not consider equality with God something to grasp but took the very nature of a servant, and became obedient to death – even death on a cross.

Over this Holy Week take some time to pause and prayerfully reflect upon this sacred mystery. Spend some time in Church and use the silence to ponder, to pray and to listen for the still small voice of calm.

Maker that extra effort to attend the worship and ceremonies of the Tridiuum – especially Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.

Then join the thousands throughout the world who on Easter Day will joyfully proclaim the reality of the Resurrection!

  Strictly Gershwin

The St Luke’s Theatre Circle have five tickets for the Strictly Gershwin song and dance spectacular at the Royal Albert Hall featuring the English National Ballet, orchestra and singers.

Christian Aid

With the arrival of a new baby Katy Maplan is unable to continue as our Parish rep for Christian Aid. So we need a new person to take on the task of liaising with the Kingston Committee for Christian Aid and organising for our Parish to cover one or two streets in the Canbury area to be covered for the annual charity collection.  If you feel able to take up this role please see Fr Martin.

Music in Hospitals – Concert

A concert will be held from 2.45pm on Sunday 20th April featuring local classical musicians to raise the profile and funds for this charity. Music in Hospitals seeks to provide stimulation and entertainment for hospital residents by paying for professional musicians  to play in local hospitals.

Canbury Community Arts

The Saturday Drama Workshops are proving to be most popular and planning is now underway for the Holiday activities. Don’t forget that the St Luke Players will be performing “Bunnies Galore: They’re hoping mad!” on April 23 and April 26.
